Our Work

We are changing politics in Australia

Run For It is an organisation run by young people for young people.

We are an independent, non-partisan political organisation working towards better policy outcomes for current and future generations of young people.

We do this by :

  • Training and encouraging young leaders to take on election campaigns as candidates and community organisers.

  • Increasing the amount of young people voting and actively engaging in our democracy.

  • Fighting for a fairer system for young people in politics.

The Problem

Politics in Australia is dominated by a small few who do not accurately represent the diversity of our society and are often out of touch with the needs and concerns of the next generation of Australians.

Our democracy, originally designed to represent all of our interests, has slowly become captured by vested interests. Within this system, the voices of young people are drowned out and the future of our democracy is being put on the line.

Our Solution

At Run For It, we believe that;

If we resource, train and inspire enough values aligned young people to engage in our politics, the diverse needs of young people will be heard and responded to by our politicians and decision-makers - because young people can determine election outcomes.

Our Vision

We envision a world where politics accurately represents the interests of young people and is representative of our diversity.

A type of politics where young people face no barriers in engaging in our democracy and feel comfortable speaking up for what they believe in.

One where our needs and concerns are not just taken seriously, but are finally addressed and responded to.

Our Principles

Young people across the country are sick of seeing conservative, old, white men calling the shots in politics and are ready to vote for young leaders who will stand for what they need and believe in.

We know that it won’t be easy to change a system designed to exclude us, but with strong core values and principles, we believe we can build the momentum to change politics in Australia.

These are the core principles that our work and approach to campaigning is grounded in.

We are powerful when we are united.

We will only create and see the change we desire when we fully and accurately fight for the demands of young people seeking progressive change. We will always listen to and prioritise the voices of First Nations people and put those that have been historically least represented to the front of our work.

We have no permanent enemies, nor permanent friends.

We will never back down and compromise for policies and promises that don’t leave us feeling safe and content. No politician or decision-maker will gain our support until they are prepared to listen and stand with us when it counts.

We are not bounded by traditional definitions of politics and activism.

As long as the actions of our leaders are safe, respectful and inclusive, we will support them to engage in politics. Whether its running for office, marching or organising a school program, we are here to make it happen.
