Jananie Janathana

ALP Candidate - West Ward - City of Ryde

 Jananie believes that powerful collaborations through community organising drives social change; she believes that it starts at a grassroots, local community level and that is why she is running for Ryde Council, West Ward.

Jananie grew up in Eastwood and is passionate about affordable housing and climate change and believes that good local governance can play a significant role in tangible ways to local citizens.

Jananie brings her community organising, governance, policy and campaigning skills from her career as a unionist at the CPSU and as a board director for ActionAid Australia. Jananie is currently at the Sydney Policy Lab at the University of Sydney where she works with government, civil society and academics to foster collaboration for real world- policy impact. She is experienced in reforming organisational policies to foster diversity and inclusion and is hoping to bring that experience to Ryde council.
